Why We Do What We Do:
Most know Thrive Flower Farm exists solely to raise money for our 501c3 nonprofit, Change for Congo. This organization was started in 2016 by Bobby and I shortly after bringing our son home after a long adoption process. We became fast friends with Sadiki who helped us finally bring Mosi home. We helped him start this orphanage from the ground up mostly through financial support. Sadiki continues to serve as our director and facilities manager today. Currently we have 31 children living at the Hope House in Goma, DRC.
All proceeds from our flower farm and this fundraiser event go directly to support and sustain daily life for these parentless children. Your donation includes school fees, food, housing, and medical needs, as well as, fair staff salaries. Thank you for considering to attend this dinner, which will bridge the gap between our monthly sponsorships and flower farm profits for our Congo Cuties.
Farm to Table Background:
Before the first seed was planted on the farm, I dreamed of one day hosting friends, family, donors, and neighbors around one long table to share a meal and give thanks for what the Lord has allowed us to do with so many generous supporters. My in-laws attended a Farm to Table Dinner in their small town, igniting the idea. I knew this was the perfect way to use my gifts as a farmer and our desire to share this opportunity by honoring the two things we work hard for, our farm and our mission. Last year, we hosted the first Farm to Table Dinner and it was more than I could have imagined. It truly was a memorable night.
This year we want to invite YOU and a guest. We only sell pairs of tickets to ensure everyone has a someone. Because things are more enjoyable with a someone and we definitely want all our ones to enjoy!
The Dinner:
We grow what we can and buy the rest from local farmers or vendors. Then we cook everything in our home, family style, but with great attention to detail and high level of quality and care for each dish. Our friends come over to pitch in the day or two prior to the dinner. It’s a labor of love that I delight in sharing with my guest. Dinner will be lovingly served by our children and a few volunteers, we can assure you, they will make every effort to serve you on this evening.
Your donation is in the price of your ticket so no fussy money talk over the meal. You will hear a little about our farm, our Congo cuties, and I’ll likely cry a little because it’s so fun to see this all come together. Then we’ll all just sit back and enjoy a wonderful time. This time has been created to be a small but meaningful celebration of thanks, for what the Lord has done over the years for our African family. We want you to be in the moment you’re in with the people in front of you.
This year we have a Tex-mex theme. I don’t see how it could go wrong? Chips and salsa, live music, and Lord willing, beautiful weather (start praying now).
I really don’t want anyone to miss out who wants to come! I surely do hope you can join us because it’s truly is a special time.
Blessing,
Sara
